Les Poyeux is perhaps Saumur’s most prized lieu-dit (made famous by Clos Rougeard). It’s at the top of the slope; a windy spot with shallow, sandy soil. This is the only red Pélo raises in oak; specifically a single, old foudre. Bonné lauds its ‘marvelous silken texture and regal, floral-edged fruit.’ Terroir driven and ethereal (one could be forgiven for failing to identify it as Cabernet Franc), the 2020 is only now entering its long drinking window.
