2014 Geremia IGT
This wine is named after the founder of Marco’s family from the 8th century and is a blend of 76% Merlot and 24% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is aged in barriques for 2 years, bottled unfiltered, and always displays great finesse and complexity. Marco selected heavily in 2014 and only made 50% of his normal production of Geremia – a decision he felt was the right thing to do but one he knows he will regret in time! It has a concentrated dark berry nose with distinctive pepper, graphite and warm, sweet spice. The tannins are well controlled and the Gaiole terroir really comes through.
A intense red, boasting an expressive range of kirsh, raspberry, floral, mineral and spice flavors, nicely offset by a vibrant structure. All the elements come together on the lingering aftertaste. Merlot and Cabernet sauvignion. Best from 2020 through 2032. 94 points, B.S.
Merlot 72%, Cabernet Sauvignon 28%. Vigorous. Great structure and texture, beautiful crafted. Black fruits, plum, spice, leather ans slate. Seamless with a long finish. Needs a couple of years bottle age. Great wine. 95 points, Tony Wood.
`The 2014 Geremia, Rocca di Montegrossi`s Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blend, is another compelling wine in this range. Today, the Geremia is perhaps a bit austere, but at least some of that is attributable to the personality of the vintage. Time in the glass brings out an attractive range of sage, menthol, licorice and dark red/purplish fruit. I very much like the energy and drive here.` 95 points, Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Feb 2019
