This is a comparatively austere but engaging wine, grown on sandy, red slate soils with deposits of quartz. Kathrin describes Kirchberg as ‘rough around the edges’ (though she means that in a purely positive sense). Even in a warmer vintage such as ’22, it’s tightly wound and linear, with aromas of dried herbs and celery salt, and a moreish bitter lemon finish
