Not for nothing did Stuart Pigott, in his definitive Wine Atlas of Germany, describe Abtsberg Spätlese as ‘the epitome of good German Riesling.’ It’s flamboyantly aromatic yet precise. The 2022 is simply magnificent, with a panoply of fruity, floral and mineral aromas; a huge weight of fruit and ample energy to keep acidity to keep things moving. It will only improve over the coming 2-3 decades or more.
