Maison Antech has been a reference point for the wines of Limoux in the Languedoc for six generations. Françoise Antech-Gazeau is the latest in a line of female owner/winemakers here including, in the wake of the Second World War, her aunt Eugénie, to who this wine pays homage. Grown on gentle slopes of clay-limestone, it’s a blend of 30% Chenin, 60% Chardonnay and a crucial 10% Mauzac – a local white grape that had become increasingly scarce, but is undergoing a resurgence thanks in no small part to Maison Antech. Made using the Traditional (Champagne) Method, Cuvée Eugénie spends some 18 months on the lees, and is characterised by subtle autolytic and fresh citrus and orchard fruit aromas.
