The Gattinara from Mauro Franchino is a Stannary favourite. It’s a wine of real nobility, reticent in its youth, with firm tannins, but capable of long-term aging. Vinified in concrete, then raised for three years in cask, the 2018 is beginning to show some lovely hints of development, with aromas including sottobosco and liquorice. Its sapid finish will have you reaching for a plate of prosciutto.
