Weingut Heinrichshof

Peter Griebeler is both articulate and ambitious. Having studied winemaking and done internships at two of Germany`s moth famous estates, Schlossgut Diel in the Nahe and Fritz Haag in the Mosel, PEter then worked as a winemaker at ZGM. In 2014 he decided to return to the family estate in Zeltingen where things are much smaller scale and artisan and very much focused on quality. Though the estate has acquired more vineyards over the past twelve months, its total holdin is still less than 6 hectares, a significant proportion of which are on the brilliant, steep slopes of Sonnenuhr and Schlossberg. 2014 was Peter`s first vintage and we are delighted to be representing these mouthwatering Rieslings. Whilst also making some sweeter styles, Peter`s focus is on the dry (trocken) style, which highlights the terroir and minerality of his sites. Through a range, the natural ripeness of the grapes, achieved through good exposure and vineyard management, means that whilst the wines are dry (about 6 grams of residual sugar) they have a lovely mid-palate weight that prevents them from being rasping. The zing and vitality are all there but there is enough fruit to carry them. For all that, his dessert wines are also stunning and cost almost nothing. This is a superb source of Riesling at great prices.

  • This is an absolutely delicious white from the heart of the Mosel. Lots of moreish fruit mingles with spritzy, racy acidity that set the mouth alive. Drink from now.

This is named after the ruins of a castle, in the Zeltlingen vineyards. It has fine, delicate stone fruit aromas and racy minerality, with a hint of richness on the palate. The wine will develop more weight with bottle age but is equally delicious and refreshing now as an aperitif. Excellent balance.

This is a precise, mineral driven Riesling with zesty citrus fruit and delicate yellow stone fruit flavours such as quince and apricot. A very pure and balanced wine with a medim plus length.

  • This is from a parcel of the vineyard called `Welbersberg`, a steep south west facing slope where vines are still ungrafted. As 30% grapes with noble rot were included the wine is rich but still racy and clean on the palate with apricot and yellow fruit aromas. Saline minerality on the mid palate with a distinctive medium dry finish which is well balanced with the crisp acidity of the wine. Citrus, lime and gooseberry flavours keep lingering on.

This was fermented in traditional 1000l oak barrels called `Fuder`, some of which are dating back to 1959! As opposed to the vineyard name suggesting red slate, this actually comes from a blue slate vineyard neighbouring the famous Zeltinger Sonnenuhr. On the nose this offers delicate aromas of peach and green apple as well as fragrant herbs such as coriander. On the palate this is rich in extract, still has hints of yeast and herbs at the moment as well as a striking slate minerality. It is still youthful and will benefit from a year or two in bottle. Drink from 2017 -2025.

  • This is fragrant and offers citrus and exotic aromas, such as passion fruit on the nose, whereas the palate has intense flavours of bitter leomon, white honey and peach.
