RAEN Winery is the work of Dante and Carlo Mondavi of the famed Mondavi family. Although only founded in 2013 on the Sonoma Coast, the brothers started their winemaking careers back in 1996 working with their grandfather, Robert, and father, Tim, at Robert Mondavi Winery and Opus One. With the aim of achieving world class Pinot Noir, their hard work is already coming into fruition. These are Pinot Noirs that maintain the purity and delicacy of the grape, while expressing the cool climate of the Sonoma Coast. The Mondavi brothers produce only three vineyard specific Pinot Noirs with total production of only 26 barrels. The Royal St. Robert Cuvée is produced from a selection of the finest barrels and from a cool hillside vineyard just north west of Freestone. It is named in honour of their grandfather, Robert Mondavi. These are simply stunning Pinots that have the both the polish and finesse one more commonly associates with the likes of Vosne-Romanée.

Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, the 2016 Pinot Noir Home Field Vineyard gives up notes of black tea, scorched earth, raspberries and wild blueberries with fragrant wafts of lilacs and rose hips plus a suggestion of charcuterie. Medium-bodied, intensely fruited and tightly wound, the palate is taut, muscular and lively with bags of energy down to the long, perfumed finish. 94+/100 Lisa Perrotti-Brown
Medium ruby-purple colored, the 2016 Pinot Noir Bodega Vineyard has a compelling animal/meaty waft over a core of baked cherries, warm strawberries, rhubarb, fertile loam, dried Provence herbs and lavender. Medium-bodied with a great mid-palate of muscular red fruit, it has a solid line of grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long with loads of mineral and earthy layers. 94/100 Lisa Perrotti-Brown
Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, the 2016 Pinot Noir Royal St. Robert struts a super savory nose of chargrilled meats, yeast extract, wood smoke and forest floor with a core of wild strawberries, raspberry tart and cranberries plus touches of dried Provence herbs and truffles. The medium-bodied palate reveals a chewy frame with seamless acid supporting a great core of expressive, earthy layers culminating in a long, mineral-laced finish. - Lisa Perrotti Brown 94
