Lutum

LUTUM is a joint venture between Gavin Chanin and Bill Price. Entrepreneur Bill Price has always had a love of wine and is the owner of Classic Wines and Price Family Vineyards, including the iconic Durell Vineyard, which has always been at the core of Kistler’s reputation. Bill approached Gavin with the offer to work with some of the top Sonoma vineyards and it was something that Gavin couldn’t refuse. LUTUM is latin for dirt or soil and it reflects their desire to make wines to reflect these great sites, with little to mask their natural character. The vineyards are much further north than those Gavin was already working with and consequently the wines have a wonderful brightness and freshness to them, accentuating their terroir definition. This is a really exciting project with a very bright future.
