Knez Winery

In 2007 and 2008 Peter Knez bought two of the finest vineyard sites of the Anderson Valley; Cerise and Demuth. Knez’s second great move was to employ Anthill Farms’ Anthony Filliberti to run the estate and to make the wine. Both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are farmed biodynamically and the wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts and the careful use of whole clusters. There seems to be a steady rise in quality as the oak influence has been reduced and the terroir of these sites has been allowed to express itself. The wines tend to be picked on the early side to emphasise the freshness that these cool, high elevation vineyard sites give to the wines. Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2015. `Anthony Filiberti has been making gorgeous wines at Knez for a number of years, yet this small Anderson Valley estate remains a bit of an undiscovered gem. The reds see a good dose of whole clusters, which gives them notable aromatic lift and perfume. The 2013s are beautifully expressive.`
