Domaine Violot-Guillemard

This domaine dates back to the beginning of the 20th century when Joannés Faivre began splitting his time between being a vigneron and a distiller. Various family members from various sides of the family have since moved the domaine on to where it is now. And now, with a certain symmetry, young Joannes Violot-Guillemard is running the domaine, which today has vineyards across the Côte de Beaune in Beaune, Meursault, Monthelie, Auxey Duresses, Volnay and, of course, Pommard. Stylistically the wines have a lightness of touch which is ideal for the appellations they have in their portfolio as their subtlety contrasts with the typical power and earthiness of the appellations. New oak is used very sparingly and both whites and reds seem to be handled with equal aplomb. Small recent vintages due to frost and hail mean current availability is limited but in 2017s there will be more volume available.
