Domaine Villa Saint Roch

Domaine Villa Saint Roch is a small family domaine about 25 kilometres from Carcassonne in Caunes-Minervois. The domaine is divided up into three distinct areas within the appellation, with around four hectares in each. They are Le Bosquet, which is planted with Carignan on chalk and sand; Saint Ilisse, which is also planted with Carignan (forty year old vines) but on a more acid soil of schist and gravel, and lastly Pinabaud, which is planted with Grenache and a little Mourvèdre on chalky soil that is facing due south and has the sunniest exposure of the three, which is perfect for ripening the slow maturing Mourvèdre. The mix of plots helps to add layers of complexity and personality to the wines, whilst the oceanic microclimate means the vineyards benefit from the sun and warmth of the south without the excessive heat and this helps maintain a lovely freshness and spine. The wine is aged in stainless steel and bottled unfiltered. It is perfumed and attractive on the nose with plenty of spice and red and black fruits.
