Domaine Lebreuil

Based in the heart of Savigny-lès-Beaune this domaine was established back in 1935 and is now run by Jean-Baptiste Lebreuil. His approach in the cellars is fairly hands off, gentle vinification, limited new oak and a focus on red fruit rather than black. The wines tend to need two or three years to start to show their character as they are not tarted up in youth. In many they reflect the kind, gentle character of their winemaker; unpretentious and very likeable. Pricewise they offer terrific value, too. In fact JB has a pricing policy we wish all our growers would adopt. When faced with pricing up the 2016s, having lost around 80% of his crop, his view was that he couldn’t put up his price 5 fold to cover the deficit. If he put prices up by 25% it still wouldn’t get back what he had lost and his customers would be unhappy with the increases so he left them as they were!
