Domaine du Joncier
Pierre Roussel established this domaine in 1964 and his daughter, Marine, returned home in 1989 to join the domaine. Under her care the domaine turned organic with the turn of the century and achieved biodynamic certification in 2011. One of Marine’s greatest successes has been to counterbalance the natural richness of fruit that the appellation tends to produce; its warmth and exposure being similar to that of neighbouring Châteauneuf-du-Pape. There is a mix of exposed galets-dominated plots and terraced slopes. The harmony in the vineyards, the low yields and Marine’s conscientious work in the small cuverie all play their part, charging the wines with a freshness and precision so many Rhône wines can lack. These are lovely wines, with sophisticated tannins and lots of character and depth but also with great purity and seductiveness.

This is a blend of 70 Mourvèdre and 30% mix of Grenache, Cinsault, and Carignan. The warmth of Lirac ripens the Mourvèdre beautifully creating a wine of seductive fragrance and perfume. Drink from 2015.
