Ciro Picariello

Based in Summonte near Avellino in Campania, Ciro Picariello and his wife, Rita, craft some fabulously vibrant and mineral whites. The soil is a mix of clay and sand. The high winds of summer and the cool nights mean that maturation arrives gently, increasing complexity and maintaining freshness. Picking occurs quite late, towards the end of October. The training and pruning of the Fiano vines ensure yields are kept low, a fact further compounded by severe selection. The juice is both fermented and aged in stainless steel in order to maximise the precision and purity of the wines. Both wines have a strong sense of minerality running through them, though there is more matter on the 906. These are very food friendly and full of personality and dynamism. Great wines.
