Château Pesquié

We are delighted to have become agents for this ever-progressive, family-run but sizeable domaine. Based in Mormoiron, amongst the foothills of the Ventoux, whose snow-topped peak towers majestically over the surrounding region, the estate really benefits from the cooler climate of the appellation. The estate is planted mainly with Syrah and Grenache on soils that are surprisingly light, with plenty of small stones, gravel and sand. This lightness of soil and the greater altitude help to provide a dynamic core that runs through all the wines and gives them a wonderful drinkability. There is a small amount of white planted, too, which is picked early to maximise vibrancy. Three different labels are made for us here. The main Pesquié label is represented by the entry level Ventoux Terrasses, Quintessence, an altogether more powerful wine, Artemia, which is very much for laying down and a new top cuvée called Ascencio. Then we have the Paradou label, which includes reds, whites and rosés from bought in fruit. If there is a better value red in this list than the Grenache under this label you will do well to find it. Finally, we have our own specially designed label, 974, which is the road that cuts through the region. For now this includes a specially blended Ventoux (blended by the winner of our Sommelier of the Year) and a Viognier but we are looking to add new wines in the coming years.
