Pierre-Yves is one of the best winemakers in Chassagne and Chassagne is currently an incredibly dynamic village with lots of great winemakers, so it’s not a loose statement. Not only does he make the wines from his own vineyards but also those from his wife Caroline’s vineyards. The tell-tale precision, extract, sophistication and sheer class of these wines is pure Pierre-Yves. The range is currently quite small but Caroline will be inheriting various other plots in the future so it could expand rather nicely. Going forward she will also be taking a much more hands on role in the estate. Oak is well used on these wines; around 25% for the Saint-Aubins and 35/40% for the Chassagnes. They all have a strong sense of dry extract on the finish which adds length, complexity and a mouth-watering quality which is quite delightful. `On the other hand, if money’s no object, Domaine Caroline Morey’s Chassagne 1er Cru Champgains, Burgundy, 2011 is truly gorgeous. Incisive and intense, with plenty of lemon zest and pink grapefruit flavours.` Natasha Hughes MW, March 2015
