2015 Barbaresco Ovello

Wine colour
Italy > Piedmont
Az. Agr. Cantina del Pino
Tasting Notes:

The Ovello vineyard is one of the greatest cru in Barbaresco and the vines are over 70 years old. This is slightly more open than normal at this stage, with aromas of red cherry and wild blackberries. As it opens, more savoury notes of mint, tea and tobacco come through as well as a floral nuance. There is great depth to the fruit which balances the powerful structure. Always a linear wine, the tannins are complex and give a very long finish and great persistency to this wine. One of my top buys for sheer value.

Press Reviews:

`The 2015 Barbaresco Ovello is a polished and silky expression that reveals strong intensity and a deep sense of varietal identity. This is a very focused Barbaresco that opens beautifully to show a degree of mineral definition that lingers long on the palate, adding to the linear and direct personality of the wine. When you dig deeper, you do recognize that this is a warmer vintage, thanks to its textural richness and loose fiber. This will only improve in the future. Only 5,000 bottles were created.`

`Not surprisingly, the 2013 Barbaresco Ovello is the most reticent of the four Barbarescos in this tasting. Linear and a bit nervous - as wines from this site often are - the 2013 is a bundle of energy. Even so, there is more than enough depth in the fruit to balance out the wine`s structural elements. All the 2013 needs is more time in bottle. Readers will have to be patient. Even so, the 2013 is likely to always remain an especially dark, somber Ovello.` 93+ points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com
