2014 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo
Elena Fucci only produce one wine, all of which comes from their 6ha in the Titolo vineyard - the best vineyard in the Vulture region with its vines situated near the top of the volcano, Mt Vulture, at high altitudes (600m). The winemaking is traditional and the wine is aged for 12 months in small barrels and larger oak casks. Stylistically though this is relatively modern with plenty of dark and rich fruit balanced with hints of savoury herbs.
`Bright purple-ruby. Aromas and flavours of dark plum, black cherry and sweet spices are complemented by a strong balsamic note. Bright and juicy, with a lovely mineral tang and harmonious acidity lifting the steely red fruit flavours and extending them through a long floral finish. Outstanding wine. The 2014 vintage was a very rainy one throughout Italy, but it was not so wet on the Vulture, where late harvests mean that summer rains are less damaging than elsewhere in the country (the veraison doesn’t even start in the Vulture until September.)` 93 points, Ian D`Agata, www.vinous.com, drink from 2018 - 2026
`Bright purple-ruby. A strong balsamic note complements the dark plum, black cherry and sweet spice aromas and flavors. Lively and juicy; a fresh mineral tang lifts and focuses the steely, mineral fruit flavors and extends them on the bright, floral-accented finish. ` ww.vinous.com - July 2017
`Mid ruby. Classic Aglianico nose with wonderful racy, dark fruit on the palate with bags of coating tannins. It all strikes a great balance. Apparently this is aged in 50% new barrique, but hardly noticeable.` 17.5 points, Walter Speller - Jancis Robinson (April 2018)
