This is a new wine from the stars at Varner which fits neatly between the Foxglove range and the small production single vineyard offerings. It is ripe and rich with some spice yet fresh enough to lift it above its peers. Drink from 2015

Press Reviews:

`Brothers Bob and Jim Varner are two of the most unassuming, humble winemakers in California. They don`t need to say much. The wines take care of that themselves. These are some of the most beautiful, striking Chardonnays and Pinots readers will come across.` Antonio Galloni, vinous.com

`This chardonnay from coastal Santa Barbara is a world away from the increasingly dated cliché of big and buttery California. It’s full of nervy acidity and pristine tropical and citrus fruit.` David Williams, Observer Food Monthly, November 2015

`Twins Jim and Bob Varner craft elegant Chardonnays using minimum intervention, gentle lees stirring and a small amount of new oak. Apple, fresh figs, citrus pith, light tropical fruit and white flowers, with a creamy almond finish. Drink 2018-2025.` 91 points, Ronan Sayburn MS, Decanter, Sept 2018

`From twins Jim and Bob Varner who planted this vineyard in 1980, 10 miles from the coast. The nearby ocean and stainless steel fermentation ensure a confident level of zippy bright fruit there but there`s a generosity to the nutty, malty palate too, which is surely thanks to the thoughtful combination of ageing the wine in stainless steel on the lees, and the remainder of the wine (about a quarter) for 6 months in new French puncheons. Goes with chicken.` 90 points, The Wine Gang, April 2016
