2013 Cornas `Jana`

Wine colour
France > Rhone Valley > Rhône
Domaine Johann Michel
Tasting Notes:

This cuvée comes from a terrific plot of fairly young wines planted in the Chaillots lieu dits that produces tiny yields of great quality fruit. There is only 0.3 hectares and only around 125 dozen bottles are made. It is 100% whole cluster and aged in large new oak barrels. The soil here is very granitey and its influence pervades right through both the nose and the palate. A great wine that will get better and better. Drink from 2017

Press Reviews:

`The top wine is the 2013 Cornas Cuvee Jana, and it should end up being near the top of the vintage. Similar to the straight Cornas, yet more tight, structured and concentrated, it has terrific notes of black raspberry and sweet black cherries, spice, dried flowers and leather.` Jeb Dunnuck, December 2014, (91-94), Drink. 2014 - 2029 `Glass-staining ruby. A complex bouquet evokes ripe dark berries and floral pastilles, along with suggestions of licorice, woodsmoke and olive paste. Broad and fleshy in the mouth, offering juicy black and blue fruit and spicecake flavors supported by zesty acidity. Rich yet vibrant and precise, finishing gently sweet and long, with slow-building tannins.` 92 points, Josh Reynolds, www.vinous.com
