2013 Aglianico del Vulture Sup Riserva Titolo
Elena Fucci started by producing one wine but in 2013 she made her first Riserva (only 400 magnums made in total), which has now arrived in the UK. All the fruit comes from their 6ha in the Titolo vineyard - the best vineyard in the Vulture region with its vines situated near the top of the volcano, Mt Vulture, at high altitudes (600m). The winemaking is traditional and the wine is aged for 12 months in small barrels and larger oak casks. Stylistically though this is relatively modern with plenty of dark and rich fruit balanced with hints of savoury herbs.
“The 2013 Aglianico del Vulture Superiore Riserva Titolo is a dark and savory expression with an evolved and profound bouquet that covers all the bases. It offers dried fruit and blackberry with smoke, ash and crushed river stone. That mineral identity is the wine’s most important defining characteristic. Aglianico tends to deliver astringent tannins, but this Riserva shows excellent integration and structural management. A new benchmark wine for southern Italy has just been created”. 97 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
`Lustrous mid ruby. Cherry-laced palate with savoury, exotic, spice notes and liquorice. Gorgeous freshness & bite and length. Wonderful vibrant stuff.` 17.5 points, Walter Speller - Jancis Robinson (April 2018)
