`Mid garnet colour. Rather agricultural aromas. Dense and smooth – very concentrated Valpolicella fruit with a bone-dry finish and lovely, pure, bitter-cherry flavours. Definitely worth a premium. Very appetising.` 16.5 points, Jancis Robinson, jancisrobinson.com

`Good medium red-ruby. Musky aromas of cherry, menthol, licorice and herbs. Seamless and energetic, with vibrant acidity keeping the flavors under wraps today but also extending them on the long fresh finish. Firm, dusty but noble tannins call for patience. Made with a blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta grown in vineyards in the Marano area. This is an important fact to know, as part of Marano’s vineyards are located higher up than those of other parts of Valpolicella (the vines used to make this wine lie at 300-400 meters above sea level); the altitude, combined with the tufa-rich soils of the area characterize these wines, which have higher acidity than many other Amarones (for example, this wine has over 6 g/L total acidity). This wine is called Corte Vaona in reference to the ancient paved courtyard (or corte, in Italian) located before the estate’s main house, which has been owned by the Vaona family since the mid-18th century.` 91 points, Ian D`Agata, VInous.com
