2011 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains
Yields here are always very low as Vaucrains produces bunches will very small berries. This is great for quality mind as the juice is incredibly concentrated, with both fruit and structure. As a result this is perhaps the most backward of the range but its obvious quality is evident thanks to the sheer volume and length of flavour. This will be a runner. Drink from 2019.
`Firm and crunchy and both rich and fresh. Substance and chew and real confidence` 17/20 - Jancis Robinson, jancisrobinson.com `The palate impression is strikingly rich and muscular and the typical bold and brash flavors of a classic Vaucrains are present before terminating in a wonderfully intense, austere and hugely long finish. As is almost always the case with the Gouges Vaucrains, this is very firmly structured and will need all of a decade and very probably then some to fully mature` 91-93/100 - Burghound
A vineyard with a chalky, stony soil. This has an enormously expressive nose with great concentration and purity. The appeal of this wine lies in its balance between this great concentration and its finesse. Lovely tannins. Very controlled. Huge potential. Impressive. Drink from 2016.
