2011 Croix des Vérillats
Slightly darker fruits here perhaps but such freshness and purity at the same time. The balance is impeccable and the drive a delight. There is such a deftness of touch. If only all Beaujolais were this classy. Limited quantites. Drink from now.
`The classic Moulin-à-Vent pepper character is strong on the reserved nose that is composed of mostly dark berry fruit and earth aromas. There is good concentration in the context of the vintage with delicious and intense flavors that are supported by firm, indeed even chewy tannins yet there is an abundance of dry extract buffering them on the balanced and lengthy finish. Even though the fruit was destemmed the palate impression is old school and serious and I would recommend buying this only if you have the express intention of cellaring it for at least 6 to 8 years first.` 92 pts, Burghound `A little darker and younger looking than the 2012. A hint of vanilla as well as rich ripe cherry fruit. Just a touch stemmy on the nose but that increases the dry freshness on the palate. Super-refined and quite tight but without the richness on the mid palate of the 2012 but perhaps a more elegant wine overall. ` 17/20, Julia Harding, jancisrobinson.com, June 2016
