Climats du Coeur provides a once in a life-time opportunity for wine lovers to drink unique magnums made by Burgundy’s finest producers, whilst raising money for charity.

When Jeremy Seysses approached me last year to ask if I wanted to become involved with the Climats du Coeur, I jumped at the opportunity. Climats du Coeur brings together some of Burgundy’s finest estates to create 4 magnums of wine. Many of our growers have contributed fruit, including Arlaud, Dujac,  Roumier, Lambrays, Leflaive, Paul Pillot, Thibault Liger-Belair, Jean Grivot, Henri Gouges and Albert Bichot, as well as many other famous names such as Mugnier, Ramonet, Vougeraie and PYCM. All that know Jeremy Seysses will know how close his charity causes are to his heart and I am very pleased that he approached me. Les Cimats du Coeur follows the same spirit of generosity and solidarity that founded the Hospices de Beaune in 1453.

The concept is a simple one but it is also an extra-ordinary logical achievement of co-operation by the Burgundians. 35 Domaines in the Côte d’Or have donated fruit to the cause, which has been vinified by eight different wineries. The four wines have been bottled in magnums only. Because the fruit is coming from lots of different parcels of 1ers Crus, each wine is labelled simply as 1er Cru, with no specific vineyard name. Around seven barrels of each wine have been made. Even the barrels (Sequin-Moreau), corks (Trescases), bottles and capsules have been donated to the cause.

The concept may be a simple one, but the result is an extraordinary one: a unique selection of never seen before wines that will generate very welcome funds for those in most need.

2017 Vintage

The 2017 is a marvelous vintage in the heart of a golden decade in Burgundy. After a mild and dry winter, an early and warm spring gave way to an early flowering in the vineyards. The sunny summer allowed for a beautiful maturation of the fruit, balanced acidity, and berries in perfect health. Each cuvée was vinified by a Domaine and Négociant team who worked together to elaborate the wines. The wines are splendid. The whites of 2017 are full of energy and strength. The reds are flavorful, round, and silky with a wonderful sense of balance. The finesse of the tanins allowing for a full expression of the fruit. 2017 is a vintage that will age very well while tasting beautifully already.

The Charities

The money raised will be split between four charities with 70% given to  “Restos du Coeur” who provide meals and food to those in need (in 2018, they served 130 million meals with demand rising during Covid). 30% is split between Secours Catholique, Croix Rouge Française, Simon de Cyrène and CHU-Là-Haut. I very much hope you will support these brilliant charities, while enjoying these magnums.
