Domaine Bernard Moreau Bourgogne Blanc 2017

The 2017 Vintage

Following the challenging and low-yielding 2016 vintage, the Burgundians were delighted to see in a bumper crop in 2017 where the early signs are extremely exciting for both red and whites.

We don't typically release the new vintage until the January Burgundy En Primeur campaign, but we have just received delivery of Domaine Bernard Moreau's Bourgogne Blanc, which we are delighted to offer to you today. We recommend getting your orders in quickly, as this wine sells out every year.

Domaine Bernard Moreau
We have loved this domaine since Jason and Sam set up Flint Wines in 2006 but it seems it is now one of the most talked about, not just in Chassagne, but south of Beaune. Alex and his brother Benoit make a formidable team and the wines just seem to have a perfect mix of fruit intensity, weight, minerality and energy. The Bourgogne Blanc, which we always have to ship early (partly because we need the stock as it runs out so quickly and partly because if we don't Alex will sell it all to his mates!), is a Chassagne masquerading as a humble generic, whilst the real village Chassagne ticks every box in the definitive guide to Chassagne. Over the past decade the élevage has been extended and the new oak been more subtly handled meaning the wines have become more elongated and refined with added complexity and length. At the top end sadly the brothers have had to dig up much of their beloved Ruchottes as the vines were just too old but there are plenty of other 1ers Crus in the stable worth seeking out and there is also a little Chevalier and Bâtard produced for those in the know.

"Traditionally, this is the quickest selling wine of the whole en primeur offer. It is a wine that overdelivers, combining richness of fruit with fresh-picked zinginess. As always, this is phenomenal value for white Burgundy and punches well above its Bourgogne classification."
Jason Haynes, Burgundy Buyer

"Bright yellow. Ripe yellow peach and spices on the inviting nose. Nicely concentrated Bourgogne with a strong impression of salted peach. Finishes with good length and verve."

Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
