Hickinbotham 2015

Hickinbotham's Rave Reviews

 Wine will arrive in June

Although it may sound more like a middle order pairing from a 1980's England cricket team, Hickinbotham is in fact one of the jewels in the extensive Jackson Family collection of wineries. Located in the McLaren Vale in South Australia, the vineyards were acquired by the family in 2012. They had originally been established by Alan Hickinbotham in 1971 and were the source of fruit for iconic wines such as Grange Hermitage and Eileen Hardy. Vineyards in this area date back to the mid-nineteenth century. Clarendon is located on the edge of the Adelaide foothills in the very north of the McLaren Vale with an elevation of 500 metres above sea level, which keeps temperatures cool and ensures fantastic diurnal weather patterns that contribute to the complexity and completeness of the juice.

Since taking over the vineyards, winemakers Charlie Seppelt and Christopher Carpenter have crafted some thrilling wines, and this release of their latest vintage has been highly anticipated These 2015s have had great reviews across the board. Remember, we are not known for our Australian portfolio so be assured that we were mightily impressed by these wines.

2015 THE PEAKE CABERNET SHIRAZ
£275 ib/3

97 points – Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“ A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon and 44% Shiraz, the 2015 The Peake Cabernet Shiraz has a deep garnet-purple color and a profound nose of baked cherries, blackberry coulis and blueberry compote with hints of cedar, violets, dark chocolate and a waft of wild thyme. Full-bodied, rich and opulent, it has a seductively complex and plushly textured palate, with tons of black fruit and spice layers, finishing long and perfumed. ”

92+ points – Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“ Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Trueman Cabernet Sauvignon is redolent of crushed blackcurrants, black plums and dried Mediterranean herbs with hints of cedar, toast, fertile earth and mocha. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the mouth with expressive cassis and toasty flavors, lifted with a pleasant herbal note and framed by ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and lively. ”
