This appellation is widely described as `sprawling` as it encompasses half or more of the county. Anthill Farm`s fruit comes from two of the coolest, most coastal parts of this appellation. The low coast, west of Sebastopol on the edge of the Petaluma Gap; and the high coast, the first or second ridge inland from the ocean farther to the north. These sites are united by the direct influence of the Pacific‘s cool, marine air, delaying ripening well into October. The 2013 is one of the most precise Sonoma Coast wines Anthill Farms have made to date: detailed aromas of fresh-cut cranberry mix with satsuma rind and cracked fennel seed. The palate is warm and inviting, with waves of gentle, liquid tannin spilling over the tongue, all leading to a long, gauzy finish. This wine is quite approachable on release, but three or four years of aging will be very rewarding.

With this Pinot, Anthill Farms look to create a food-friendly, nuanced wine that represents the unique character of the Anderson Valley. Somewhat remote from most of Northern California’s wine-growing districts, this valley shelters a surprisingly harmonious blend of the wild and the civilized. in one vista, one can see sheep ranches, redwood groves, apple orchards, and impenetrable oak scrub.

The hallmark of this wine is the spicy, smoky quality that underpins the dark fruit character. Concentrated and with great tension, this is delicious now due to its ripe fruit and balance but could have a long future ahead of it if it is allowed to. In 2000 16 acres of Pinot Noir were densely planted to protect the vines from the ocean winds and to provide heat from the soil. Duvarita starts at around 180 feet, rising to 370 feet and it is farmed bio-dynamically. (Drink from now)

  • The 2016 Pinot Noir (Santa Barbara County) is an addition to Gavin Chanin`s range. Sweet red cherry and floral notes are nicely pushed forward in this tasty, appellation-level Pinot. Drink it over the next few years. -- Antonio Galloni, 90 points, Vinous.

The 2016 Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict Vineyard reveals a lovely nose of fresh apples, pear, buttered popcorn, and struck match. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied and silky, more giving than the Bien Nacido, with a layered mid-palate and good depth and length. A lovely Chardonnay from this historic Sta. Rita Hills vineyard site. William Kelley 93

`The flagship wine of the range and there are hints of the Cote de Nuits about this. Minerals, stone, flowers and spice. Again, there is a string freshness and spine throughout and the wine finishes long and stylishly.` Jason Haynes

`No critical reviews of this wine but it looks set to win many friends, perhaps too many as there isn`t very much! The vintage is a good one and this wine is quite grandiose and intense with delicious tannins and sense of sophistication. Very limited.` Jason Haynes

Sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering intense red and dark berry and spicecake flavors given spine by juicy acidity. A distinctly elegant, seamless Pinot Noir with superb finishing energy; the gentle tannins are quickly absorbed by the wine`s vibrant fruit. A standout of its vintage. Drink. 2019-2024
