Rugiens

  • Awaiting Tasting Note

  • Wine

Outstanding wine that supporters of upgrading Rugiens to a Grand Cru would be keen to use in evidence. Great power but very controlled, close knit and harmonious. Drink from 2018.

The vines here are also sixty years old but the wine is quite different. Perfectly located mid-slope, Rugiens is the best vineyard in Pommard and, although tighter in youth than the Epenots, this has more culture and stuffing combined which makes for potentially a very serious wine. Drink from 2018.

  • Wine

The star of the Pommard show. This has great elegance for a Rugiens and real balance and fragrance. This wasn’t the vintage to go for power and Etienne has nailed this. Drink from 2019.

    Awaiting Tasting Note

  • Wine

The Grand Cru in waiting of Pommard. The malos here finished late and the wine is consequently backward and imposing. Very different to the Pézerolles, much more masculine and adolescent.

  • Wine

This is a little more substantial as you might expect, although the tannins are again very fine. The fruit is a little darker with more spice and earth. No harshness and beautifully put together. Drink from 2019.

  • Wine

The vines here are fifty years old and the wine sees 30% new oak. This is really quite fruit driven for a Rugiens, so many of which can be daunting and hard in youth. There is still good Pommard tannin but the balance and consistency through the palate is excellent. Drink from 2021.

Fresh and elegant wine. There is a great energy to this with bright, fresh, mineral red berry fruit flavours. Good intensity and mouth feel, and very fine tannins. Drink from 2020.

This is very serious and altogether more pwerful. It has a really lovely texture and despite the power great finesse. It is glossy and polished with fine earthy fruit flavours, great energy and freshness and a lively, savoury finish. Top job.
