Les Pruliers

Every year Pruliers just gets better and better and really bridges the gap from the Porrets to the top two. It is a blend of a parcel of very old vines and a parcel of fairly young vines which seems to give a wonderful balance and complexity to the wine. Great polish, fragrance and intensity. Serious stuff.

Pruliers lies to the north of the southern vineyards and stretches just a little higher up the slope. The domaine has a couple of parcels, one of younger vines, which used to go into the village wine, and one of sixty years plus. The addition of the younger vine fruit has added drive and freshness to concentrated old vine juice in recent years and Pruliers is now not far behind the 2 big guns of Vaucrains and Les St Georges. There is a fair bit of milleranderage, especially higher up the slope, which also increases intensity. This 2005 is still youthful with plenty of structure and power. Drink from 2015-2030

You have to love Pruliers. A parcel of old vines is assembled with one of youngish wines to make a formidable Nuits of real gravity and grace. Controlled, profound and seductive all at the same time. Drink from 2020

Gouges have 1.5 hectares of Les Pruliers which is great news as it is an excellent vineyard that lies on the same plain as Les St-Georges and Cailles and benefits from the cooling breeze that comes down the valley. The soil has plenty of stones and the slope is gentle but significant. The very slightly cooler micro climate has worked a treat in 2015 producing a wine of beautiful balance and harmony. Strawberries and cream on the nose, polished, energetic fruit on the mid palate and cultured tannins to finish. Drink form 2022.

2 parcels here, one of old vines and one of younger vines which together produce a very serious Nuits. Though on the same line as the Porrets there seems almost more lift, perhaps as a result of the breeze coming down the valley and hitting Pruliers first. There is a wonderfully transparency and focus which thrills the palate and electrifies the senses. Again not much wine this year.
