Triennes is a collaboration between Burgundy legends Jacques Seysses (Domaine Dujac) and Aubert de Villaine (Domaine de la Romanée-Conti) and has fast become the hippest rosé in London. Typical of Provençal Rosé, it combines fun and seriousness. Its delicate pale salmon pink colour with gentle notes of wild strawberries, cranberries and pink grapefruit is matched by a mouthwatering salinity and a gorgeous minerality, uncommon in many rosés.
It is nearly 30 years ago that these two Burgundian giants walked through Provence in search of an estate to make top reds. Walking through the summer warmth, it came as no surprise that they ended up focusing on rosé instead (though they also make an excellent red and white at Triennes). The estate they purchased has gentle south-facing slopes, clay and limestone soils, this terroir, combined with cool evenings ensure the wine has a gorgeous bouquet and mineral streak. It is organically farmed, which is no mean feat at this price point. It comes as no surprise that, with credentials such as theirs, this provençal rosé has risen to the very top.
“I recently tasted this wine at a Starnny Wine dinner recently held at the Middle Temple Hall, London and hosted by Diana Snowden (winemaker at Snowden Vineyards), the 2018 Triennes Rosé (Cinsault dominant with Grenache, Syrah and Merlot) hits all the right spot. Its delicate salmon pink gives way to a generous palate of wild strawberries, redcurrants and pink grapefruit with hints of verbena and a mouthwatering salinity that gives structure. It has lost the closed tightness of when it was first released and now shows generosity to the palate with a taut and linear salinity, finishing with a hint of verbena and spicy-red-berries on the finish that is immensely moreish. ‘immensely moreish’ is probably not an official tasting note but apt here. Delicious as an aperitif or with light salads.” – Sara Guiducci, Head of Sales at Stannary Wine St Co.
